Shilaoren

Shilaoren (石老人) is a coastal area and scenic destination in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China. It lies on the Yellow Sea coast in the northeastern part of Qingdao, within Laoshan District. The name comes from a rock formation along the shore known as Shilaoren Rock, which resembles an old man and serves as a local landmark.

The principal feature is Shilaoren Beach, a long sandy shoreline popular for swimming, sunbathing, and strolls along a seafront promenade. The beach area is developed with public facilities, seasonal lifeguards, and nearby hotels, restaurants, and shops. Surrounding parkland and viewpoints offer views of the Yellow Sea and the nearby Laoshan mountains. The area is marketed as one of Qingdao’s notable seaside destinations, alongside other coastal resorts.

Shilaoren belongs to the broader Qingdao seaside resort belt and is commonly visited during the summer months. It lies close to the Laoshan scenic area, providing access to beaches as well as mountain trails. Transportation to Shilaoren is available by road from central Qingdao, with connections to local urban and tourist networks.

History and development: Shilaoren Beach has been a destination since Qingdao’s emergence as a coastal leisure city. In recent decades the area has undergone infrastructure improvements to support tourism, including enhanced access, park facilities, and designated bathing zones, while preserving the natural coastal landscape. The term Shilaoren literally means “Stone Old Man,” referring to the rock formation that anchors the area's identity.
