Shelobs

Shelobs are a species of large, spider-like creatures that appear in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium. They are first mentioned in "The Hobbit" and later in "The Lord of the Rings," where they are described as being the largest spiders in Middle-earth. Shelobs are known for their immense size, with some reaching up to 10 feet in length, and their distinctive appearance, featuring a large, bulbous body and eight long, thin legs. They are also known for their venom, which is highly toxic and can cause paralysis or even death in humans.

Shelobs are typically found in dark, damp places, such as caves and tunnels, and are often associated with the dark arts. They are known to be intelligent and cunning, and are often used as guardians or servants by more powerful beings, such as Sauron. Despite their fearsome appearance, Shelobs are not typically aggressive towards humans, but will defend themselves if threatened.

In "The Lord of the Rings," a Shelob is encountered by Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee in the tunnels beneath the Misty Mountains. The Shelob attacks them, but they manage to escape, with Frodo's sword Sting killing the creature. The encounter with the Shelob is a significant event in the story, as it serves as a test of Frodo's resolve and courage.
