Shakamuni

Shakamuni is a term that refers to the historical Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, often referred to as Sakyamuni or Shakyamuni. This epithet translates to "the sage of the Shakyas," a clan to which Siddhartha belonged. He is the central figure of Buddhism and is revered as the awakened one who attained enlightenment and shared his profound insights with the world.

Born a prince in ancient India, Siddhartha renounced his privileged life to seek an end to suffering. After years of asceticism and meditation, he achieved enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya. Following his enlightenment, he spent the remainder of his life teaching the Dharma, the path to liberation from suffering, which encompasses principles like the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path.
