Sequani
The Sequani were a Gaulish tribe that inhabited eastern Gaul during the late Iron Age and into the Roman period. Their homeland covered the upper valley of the Saône and the Jura mountains, with the chief town identified as Vesontio, the site of modern Besançon. The region they occupied corresponds roughly to parts of the modern Franche-Comté and nearby western Switzerland. They were one of several Gaulish groups in contact with expanding Roman power and with neighboring tribes such as the Aedui.
