Sentinel6
Sentinel-6 is a joint mission between the European Space Agency (ESA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) aimed at continuing the long-term record of sea surface height measurements. The mission consists of a pair of identical satellites, Sentinel-6A and Sentinel-6B, launched in 2020 and 2025 respectively. The primary instrument on board each satellite is the Advanced Microwave Radiometer (AMR) and the Poseidon-4 altimeter, which measures the height of the sea surface with high precision. This data is crucial for monitoring global sea level rise, which is a key indicator of climate change. The mission also provides valuable information for weather forecasting, oceanography, and coastal management. Sentinel-6 data is freely available to the public and is used by scientists, researchers, and policymakers worldwide. The mission is part of the European Union's Copernicus program, which aims to provide accurate, timely, and easily accessible information to improve the management of the environment, understand and mitigate the effects of climate change, and ensure civil security.
