Semitransparenta

Semitransparenta is a term used to describe the property of a material or surface that partially transmits light. It denotes a state between transparent and opaque, where a portion of the incident light passes through while the remainder is reflected, absorbed, or scattered. The exact degree of transmittance depends on the material, its wavelength, thickness, and surface features, and it can vary across the spectrum.

Measurement and definitions are largely based on transmittance, the fraction of light that passes through. This is typically quantified with instruments such as spectrophotometers, which can reveal wavelength-dependent transmission. There is no universally fixed threshold that separates semitransparent from other categories; in practice, values ranging from a few percent to several tens of percent are often considered semitransparent in many applications, though coatings or special materials can push these ranges higher or lower.

Applications of semitransparenta occur in multiple fields. In architecture and design, tinted or coated glass and thin films create visual privacy while maintaining some external view. In display technology, semitransparent layers enable overlays or see-through interfaces. In materials science, semitransparenta coatings reduce glare or control heat transfer without fully obscuring underlying objects. In biology and medicine, semitransparent tissues and membranes facilitate various imaging and diagnostic techniques.

The concept is closely related to, but distinct from, translucency and opacity. Semitransparenta emphasizes partial transmission with potential directional scattering and wavelength dependence, while translucency emphasizes diffuse transmission and lack of clear image formation.
