Sembol

Sembol is the Turkish word for symbol, a sign or emblem that stands for or represents something beyond itself. In Turkish usage, as in many languages, a sembol can be an abstract idea, a value, an identity, or a cultural reference. The concept is central to semiotics, the study of signs and meaning, and is distinguished from related notions such as an icon (a sign that resembles its referent) and an index (a sign that points to its referent).

Etymology: The word sembol is of European origin, borrowed into Turkish from Latin symbolum and Greek symbolon,

Usage: Semboller are used across diverse domains—art, literature, politics, religion, and branding. Examples include national flags

Context and change: Symbolic meanings are often context- and culture-bound; what counts as a sembol can change
