Sellukuidut

Sellukuidut, also known as regenerated cellulose fibers, are a type of manufactured cellulosic fiber. They are produced by dissolving natural cellulose, typically derived from wood pulp or cotton linters, into a viscous solution and then extruding this solution into a spinning bath where it solidifies into fibers. This process involves chemical treatment and regeneration of the cellulose.

Common types of sellukuidut include rayon (also known as viscose rayon), modal, and lyocell. Rayon is the oldest and most common type, characterized by its softness, absorbency, and drape, often used in clothing and home textiles. Modal is a variation of rayon known for its enhanced strength and resistance to shrinkage, making it suitable for more durable garments. Lyocell, produced through a more environmentally friendly closed-loop process, offers excellent moisture management and a smooth feel, often found in activewear and intimate apparel.

The properties of sellukuidut can be modified during manufacturing to achieve a range of characteristics, such as varying levels of luster, strength, and elasticity. These fibers are generally biodegradable, making them a more sustainable alternative to some synthetic fibers. Their versatility allows them to be blended with other natural or synthetic fibers to enhance the performance and feel of fabrics. Sellukuidut are widely used in the textile industry for apparel, home furnishings, and various technical applications.
