Seldingereljárás, also known as the Seldinger technique, is a medical procedure used to gain access to deep-seated organs or cavities within the body. It is a minimally invasive method that involves the insertion of a catheter into a blood vessel or other body lumen. The technique was developed by Dr. Sven-Ivar Seldinger in 1953.

The procedure typically begins with the puncture of the target vessel or cavity using a needle. Once the needle is in place, a guidewire is advanced through the needle into the desired location. The needle is then removed, leaving the guidewire in position. A catheter is then threaded over the guidewire and advanced to its final position. Finally, the guidewire is removed, leaving the catheter in place for subsequent procedures such as fluid drainage, medication administration, or diagnostic imaging.

The Seldinger technique is widely used in various medical fields, including interventional radiology, cardiology, and anesthesiology. It is employed for procedures such as central venous catheterization, arterial catheterization, paracentesis, and thoracentesis. The main advantage of the Seldinger technique is that it allows for precise placement of the catheter with minimal trauma to the surrounding tissues. However, like any invasive procedure, it carries potential risks such as bleeding, infection, and vessel damage.
