Selaroides
Selaroides is a genus of small, freshwater fish belonging to the family Cyprinidae, which includes minnows and carps. The genus is native to Southeast Asia, with species found in rivers and streams of countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. Selaroides species are typically characterized by their small size, ranging from 2 to 5 centimeters in length, and their slender, elongated bodies. They have a single dorsal fin, a single anal fin, and a pair of pectoral fins, which are used for swimming and maneuvering in their aquatic environment. Selaroides fish are known for their ability to jump out of the water, a behavior that is thought to help them escape predators. Their diet primarily consists of small invertebrates and plant material. Selaroides species are of interest to aquarists due to their small size and relatively easy care requirements, making them popular choices for community tanks. However, their small size and limited distribution make them vulnerable to habitat loss and pollution, and conservation efforts are underway to protect these unique fish.
