Seentevastased

Seentevastased, also known as antifungals, are a class of medications used to treat fungal infections. Fungal infections can affect various parts of the body, including the skin, nails, hair, and internal organs. They can range in severity from mild and superficial to life-threatening systemic infections.

These medications work by targeting specific components of fungal cells that are different from human cells, thereby inhibiting fungal growth or killing the fungi. Different types of antifungals have different mechanisms of action. Some may disrupt the fungal cell membrane, while others interfere with essential metabolic processes within the fungal cell.

Antifungal drugs are available in various forms, including topical creams, ointments, lotions, and powders for skin infections, as well as oral tablets and intravenous solutions for more serious or systemic infections. The choice of antifungal medication and its form depends on the type of fungus causing the infection, the location and severity of the infection, and the patient's overall health.

Common fungal infections treated with antifungals include athlete's foot, ringworm, candidiasis (yeast infections), and nail fungus. More severe infections, such as invasive aspergillosis or cryptococcosis, require potent systemic antifungal therapy. While generally effective, antifungal medications can have side effects, and their use should be guided by a healthcare professional.
