Sedaatioista is a term referring to the process of inducing a state of calmness or reduced consciousness through the administration of sedatives. Sedatives are drugs that depress the central nervous system, leading to a range of effects from mild relaxation to deep sleep and unconsciousness. The depth of sedation can be classified into several levels, including minimal sedation (anxiolysis), moderate sedation (conscious sedation), deep sedation, and general anesthesia.

Minimal sedation involves a drug-induced state where patients are able to respond to verbal commands, though their cognitive function and physical coordination may be slightly impaired.
