Securityafdeling

Securityafdeling, or security department, is a functional unit within an organization tasked with safeguarding people, assets, information, and operations from security threats. The exact scope varies by organization, but it typically encompasses physical security, information security, and risk management. The department is usually led by a chief security officer (CSO) or security manager and reports to the executive leadership, such as the COO or CEO, or to risk and compliance functions.

Key responsibilities include physical security (access control, surveillance, guards, facility security), information security (policies, data protection, identity and access management, incident response), and risk management (risk assessments, business continuity and disaster recovery planning). The securityafdeling develops security policies, standards, and procedures, oversees security training and awareness, and leads crisis management and incident response during security events.

Operations and collaboration: It works with IT, facilities, HR, legal, and external partners such as security service providers and auditors. It conducts risk assessments, security audits, incident investigations, and vulnerability assessments; coordinates with IT for cyber incidents; manages security budgets and vendor contracts.

Governance and performance: It establishes governance structures, assigns roles, and ensures compliance with laws and standards (for example GDPR, ISO 27001). Performance is tracked using metrics such as time to detect and respond to incidents, number of security incidents, audit findings resolved, and adherence to access-control policies.

In small organizations the securityafdeling may be merged into facilities or IT, while in larger organizations it may be a standalone entity with specialized sub-units for physical security, cyber security, risk management, and business continuity.
