Schuppenlurze

Schuppenlurze, also known by its scientific name Pseudotriton montanus, is a species of salamander native to the eastern United States. It is a member of the family Plethodontidae, which includes lungless salamanders. The Schuppenlurze is often referred to as the "slimy salamander" due to the mucus-covered skin that helps it retain moisture and aids in respiration.

The Schuppenlurze is typically found in moist, forested areas, often near streams or other bodies of water. It prefers habitats with plenty of cover, such as logs, rocks, and leaf litter, where it can hide from predators and maintain its moisture levels. This species is nocturnal, meaning it is most active during the night when it hunts for small invertebrates like insects, worms, and spiders.

One of the distinguishing features of the Schuppenlurze is its smooth, dark-colored skin, which can range from black to dark brown. It has a robust body and short limbs, with the adults typically growing to lengths of about 4 to 7 inches.
