Schumacher is a German surname meaning shoemaker, from Schuhmacher, an occupational name for a person who made or repaired shoes. The spelling Schumacher is a common variant in German-speaking regions and among descendants abroad.

Michael Schumacher (born 1969) is a German former Formula One driver who won seven world championships, driving for Benetton and Ferrari. His career included 91 Grand Prix victories and numerous pole positions and fastest laps, making him widely regarded as one of the greatest drivers in the sport’s history. In 2013 he suffered serious injuries in a skiing accident, and his family has shared limited public information about his health since.
