Schulabschnitt

Schulabschnitt is a German term that roughly translates to "section of schooling" and is used as a generic label for a part of the school experience, such as a period within the academic year, a block of instruction, or a module within a curriculum.

In the German-speaking education system, the concrete subdivision is usually called Halbjahr, Quartal, Semester, or Lernabschnitt depending on the state and context. Schulabschnitt appears mainly in descriptive or administrative texts as a neutral umbrella term for one unit of teaching or a period in the schedule.

Within curriculum design, a Schulabschnitt may have defined learning objectives, content, and assessment, lasting a set number of weeks. It enables progress tracking, reporting, and scheduling, and is often aligned with reporting periods to students and parents.

In non-educational contexts, the term can refer to a physically distinct part of a school building or campus, though this usage is less standard.
