Sansar

Sansar is a social virtual reality platform and virtual world created by Linden Lab. It enables users to build, publish, and explore immersive, shared experiences that emphasize social interaction and user-generated content. The platform is designed for desktop PCs as well as VR headsets, and relies on a real-time 3D engine to render scenes, avatars, and environments. In Sansar, content creators can build experiences using built-in tools and import assets, then make them available to others through public or private access. Users participate with customizable avatars, voice chat, spatial audio, and gesture-based interactions to navigate and socialize within the experiences.

Historically, Sansar was announced by Linden Lab as a successor to Second Life and released in early access in 2017. The project aimed to provide a more immersive, scalable platform for creators and communities. Since launch, Sansar has undergone updates to improve avatar fidelity, physics, tooling, and content discovery, while maintaining a focus on user-generated experiences rather than a single virtual world.
