Sandefjord

Sandefjord is a city and municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. It lies on the Skagerrak coast of southern Norway, at the southern entrance to the Oslofjord. The municipality has approximately 63,000 residents. The urban center, also called Sandefjord, is the administrative and economic hub of the area.

Historically, Sandefjord developed as a fishing and maritime community. During the 19th and early 20th centuries it became one of Norway’s leading whaling towns, and the industry left a lasting imprint on the city’s economy and culture. The Whaling Museum in Sandefjord preserves this heritage and is a major cultural attraction.

Today, Sandefjord's economy is diversified, with services, light industry, and tourism playing important roles. The coastal location supports a harbor with passenger and freight facilities, and the nearby Sandefjord Airport, Torp, provides regional air links. The city is served by major road and rail connections, including the European route E18 and the Vestfold Line, linking it with Oslo and other towns in the region.
