Sacculusesta

Sacculusesta is a genus of fungi belonging to the family Sclerodermataceae. It is characterized by its subterranean fruiting bodies, which are typically globose to irregular in shape. The peridium, or outer wall of the fruiting body, is usually thick and leathery, and can vary in color from white to brown or black. When mature, the fruiting body dehisces, often irregularly, to release its spores. The gleba, or spore-bearing tissue, is initially firm and white, but typically becomes powdery and dark brown to black with age, containing numerous small, echinulate spores.

Species within Sacculusesta are saprobic, meaning they obtain nutrients from dead organic matter. They are often found in soil, particularly in forest ecosystems, where they play a role in the decomposition of organic material.
