S1tilaan

S1tilaan is a genus of extinct dinosaurs, discovered in the Hell Creek Formation in Montana, United States. Fossil evidence was first uncovered in the early 21st century and subsequent research led to the identification of this distinct species.

An average adult S1tilaan is estimated to have measured between 6 and 8 meters in length, with the arms being relatively short. Its weight is unknown. Studies suggest that S1tilaan was a herbivore, consuming vast quantities of plant material. One researcher has hypothesized that S1tilaan was likely among the principal wood-consumers in the Hell Creek ecosystem.

Due to its discovery in the Hell Creek Formation, co-located sediments containing the T. rex tyrannosaurid, paleontologists believe S1tilaan lived during the late Maastrichtian stage of the Cretaceous period. This geological period spanned around 68 to 66 million years ago. The age of the S1tilaan genus is thus closely locked with the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction.

Little work has been done on its systematics, as the understanding of this genus is still in an early phase. No further research could be found on coordinating contemporary theories of its bauplan, position among other distinctly different herbiavors and availability of her past whereabouts because no further examination has occurred. Its discovery has however added to our knowledge of later-period plant-eaters.
