Typical rämpspost messages use misleading subject lines, counterfeit addresses, and deceptive content to entice recipients to click links, disclose personal information, or download malware. They may impersonate legitimate institutions, offer fraudulent services, or push counterfeit products.

History and scope: Spam emerged with the growth of email in the late 20th century and became widespread in the 1990s. Advances in automation, botnets, and advertising networks have increased volume. While most rämpspost is sent indiscriminately, some campaigns target specific demographics or regions through data mining or compromised accounts.
