Räjäytystekniikka, often translated as blasting technology or demolition techniques, refers to the controlled use of explosives to break apart rock, concrete, or other materials. This discipline is fundamental in various industries, including mining, construction, quarrying, and demolition. The primary goal of räjäytystekniikka is to fragment the material in a predictable and efficient manner, allowing for subsequent removal or processing.

The process involves several key stages. First, boreholes are drilled into the material to be blasted. This is typically achieved using blasting caps or detonators, which are themselves initiated by electrical signals, fuses, or non-electric systems. The timing of the detonation is critical for controlling the blast pattern and minimizing vibrations and flyrock. Delay detonators are often used to create a sequence of explosions, guiding the material's movement and improving fragmentation.
