Ryujinx

Ryujinx is an open-source Nintendo Switch emulator for personal computers. It is designed to enable playing Nintendo Switch titles on desktop hardware by re-creating the console's hardware interfaces in software. The project is cross-platform, with builds for Windows, Linux, and macOS, and is developed by a community of volunteers.

Technically, Ryujinx is written primarily in C# and runs on the .NET runtime. It employs high-level emulation to approximate the Switch's system software while providing device emulation for input, storage, and networking. The emulator supports multiple graphics backends, including Vulkan and OpenGL on supported platforms, and DirectX on Windows, to accommodate a range of GPUs.

Game formats and use: It can load licensed game data in formats such as NSP and XCI, provided the user supplies the legal files and the necessary encryption keys from their own console. The project also supports homebrew titles. Save data can be managed and imported, and features such as language options, controller configuration, and performance tuning are available.

Compatibility and status: Ryujinx maintains a public compatibility list that rates games as playable, ingame, or not playable. In practice, some titles run close to the Switch experience at good frame rates on modern hardware, while others may exhibit graphical glitches, performance constraints, or require workarounds.

License and history: Ryujinx is released as free and open-source software under the MIT License. The project began as a community-driven effort and has continued to develop through contributions from volunteers.
