Rwandan

Rwandan refers to a person from Rwanda or to anything related to Rwanda, a landlocked country in East Africa. The capital and largest city is Kigali. Rwanda covers about 26,338 square kilometers and is bordered by Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with Lake Kivu along the western border. The population is around 13 million, with a high degree of urbanization in Kigali and increasing rural development.

The official languages are Kinyarwanda, French, and English, with Swahili widely used in commerce. Kinyarwanda is the most commonly spoken language and plays a central role in national identity. Historically, Rwanda has been inhabited by Hutu, Tutsi, and Twa communities; ethnic categories have been downplayed in official policy to promote unity. In 1994, the country experienced a mass genocide targeting Tutsi and politically moderate Hutu, which led to substantial international involvement and a long period of rebuilding and reconciliation under national leadership.

Rwanda operates as a presidential republic with the president as head of state and government, and a multi-party system. The economy is increasingly service-oriented, anchored by coffee and tea exports, tourism, and a growing information and communications technology sector. The government emphasizes rapid development, infrastructure improvement, and social programs aimed at health, education, and poverty reduction, while pursuing governance reforms and stronger regional integration.
