Rutorna

Rutorna is a fictional municipality and parish in the northern archipelago of Nordhaven, in the country of Eldoria. Covering about 120 square kilometers, Rutorna has a population of around 4,200 as of 2023. The administrative seat is the village of Lunde, and the surrounding countryside comprises small farms, dense forests, and a meandering river.

The terrain is a mix of rolling hills and conifer forests, with a short coastline along the Nord Sea. The climate is temperate with mild summers and cold winters, influencing agricultural practices and local life throughout the year.

The first documentary references to Rutorna date from the 14th century. It developed as a regional market town in the 18th century, with forestry and small-scale mining contributing to its growth. In the late 20th century, municipal reforms adjusted boundaries and governance; in recent years the town has emphasized sustainable tourism and local crafts.

The economy relies on forestry, dairy farming, and tourism. Local crafts include woodwork and textiles. The village hosts a small museum and a heritage wooden church dating to the 18th century. Transportation relies on a regional road network and seasonal ferry connections; Rutorna Station on the former Nordhaven Railway remains a heritage site.

Rutorna hosts an annual summer market and a folk music festival. The population is predominantly Swedish-speaking, with small immigrant communities and active civil society organizations. Governance is provided by a municipal council responsible for local services, schools, and zoning, within the Nordhaven regional authority and in coordination with neighboring municipalities on regional planning. The Rutorna River and Rutorna Forest are important ecological features protected by local regulations to balance forestry with conservation.
