Rupani is the local name for the currency used in Nepal. The denomination is officially called the Nepali rupee but is commonly referred to as Rupani in everyday speech. It is issued by the Nepal Rastra Bank, the central bank of the country. The currency is abbreviated as NPR and is symbolised by the letter R followed by the digit 1 (₨). Coins are circulated in denominations of one, five, ten, and twenty rupees, while banknotes are issued in denominations of fifty, one hundred, two hundred, five hundred, one thousand, two thousand, five thousand, and ten thousand rupees.
