Rrühm

Rrühm is a term primarily associated with the Moluccas, an archipelago in Indonesia. It refers to the ritual dueling clubs that were a part of the various indigenous cultures in the region. These clubs, known as "Rrühm" or "Rrehm", were typically made from hardwood, often a heavy and dense wood like ironwood.

In traditional Moluccan societies, Rrühm were employed as tools for combat and as instruments of ceremonial reenactment of battles. They were also used to settle disputes and to establish prestige and dominance within communities. Notably, the Rrühm served as a manifestation of a warrior's honor and martial prowess.

The use of Rrühm in fights was typically restricted to specific professions or social classes. These dueling clubs were used by warriors known as "saté" or "basi" warriors, who were part of large-scale battles. Additionally, these clubs were used in more secluded and isolated confrontations, often in secluded temples or outdoors in places of great natural beauty.

Pre-colonial societal norms influenced the use of Rrühm. The obligations and restrictions dictated by each culture determined who could use these types of clubs. Women generally held little to no admission to these types of practices. Each Rrühm tended to be specific to the region, and their unique designs, sometimes ornamented, often presented the craftsmanship and materials available in the area.

It's worth noting that many versions of these clubs might exist within specific regions in the islands, and the Rrühm terminology is not utilized consistently in historical and regional documents, making any study encompassing this subject and requiring more bespoke research within the specified Moluccan regions.
