Rostroconchs
Rostroconchs were an extinct class of marine molluscs that lived from the Early Cambrian to the Late Permian periods. They are characterized by a distinctive conical shell that was open at both ends, resembling a tusk or a horn. This shell morphology is unique among molluscs and has led to much debate about their evolutionary relationships.
Unlike other molluscs, rostorconchs did not have distinct muscle scars indicating the attachment of soft tissues.
Fossil evidence indicates that rostorconchs were primarily benthic organisms, living on or in the seafloor. Their
The exact phylogenetic position of rostorconchs within the Mollusca has been a subject of ongoing research.
