Roskapuun developed in the late 19th century as a timber and grain shipping point. The extension of a regional rail spur around 1905 linked it to inland markets, spurring growth. After World War II the economy diversified toward metalworking, logistics, and small-scale manufacturing. In recent decades the town has prioritized sustainable practices and a circular economy.
