Romancecar

Romancecar is a brand of limited express tourist trains operated by Odakyu Electric Railway in Japan. The name itself is a portmanteau of "romance" and "car," highlighting its intended purpose as a comfortable and scenic journey for leisure travelers. The first Romancecar, the 3000 series, debuted in 1957, revolutionizing rail travel with its then-modern design and amenities.

The primary route served by Romancecar trains is the journey between Shinjuku Station in Tokyo and Hakone-Yumoto Station in Hakone, a popular hot spring resort town. Other services have historically connected Tokyo to destinations like Enoshima and Katase-Enoshima. These trains are designed to offer passengers a relaxing experience, often featuring comfortable seating, large windows for enhanced views, and onboard services such as trolley sales and, on some models, cafe cars or small lounges.

Over the decades, Odakyu has introduced several generations of Romancecar trains, each with improved design and technology. Notable models include the 5000 series, 6000 series, and the highly recognizable 7000 series "LSE" and 10000 series "HiSE." The current flagship models are the 70000 series "GSE" and the 60000 series "MSE," which operates on different lines but shares the Romancecar branding for its express service.
