Rhine-Main, commonly written Rhein-Main in German, refers to the Rhine-Main metropolitan region in central western Germany. The term describes the urban and economic area around the Main River as it flows toward the Rhine, with Frankfurt am Main at its core. The region straddles parts of the states of Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate and includes several large cities along the Main and Rhine, most notably Frankfurt, Mainz, and Wiesbaden, as well as Offenbach am Main, Darmstadt, and Hanau.
