Wiesbaden

Wiesbaden is the capital of the German state of Hesse, located on the right bank of the Rhine opposite Mainz in the western part of the country. The city has roughly 290,000 residents and serves as an administrative, cultural, and economic center for the region.

Historically, the area has been settled since Roman times. It developed around a group of natural hot springs, which gave rise to a long spa tradition. By the 19th century Wiesbaden had become a fashionable European health resort, attracting visitors and investment and shaping much of its architectural character.

Economy and transport are dominated by public administration, services, and health due to the spa heritage, alongside tourism. Wiesbaden is a major rail hub with Wiesbaden Hauptbahnhof providing regional and long-distance connections. It is connected by motorways, including the A66 and the A3, and lies within commuting distance of Frankfurt, with Frankfurt Airport accessible within a limited travel time. The city continues to balance its historic spa identity with contemporary administration and culture.
