Reputationbased access control is a related concept where reputation signals influence rights or privileges within a system, potentially complementing or replacing traditional permission schemes.

Benefits include improved matchmaking and risk reduction, higher user confidence, and incentives for good conduct. Reputationbased approaches can lower transaction costs by surfacing reliable behavior and enabling more efficient trust decisions.

Challenges are substantial and include susceptibility to manipulation (fake reviews, coordinated voting, or Sybil attacks), cold-start problems for new participants, bias and discrimination, privacy concerns, and the potential for reputational harm from incorrect or outlier data.
