Religieuzereglementaire refers to the regulatory framework by which states govern religion and religious bodies, balancing freedom of belief with public order, equality, and secular objectives. It encompasses the laws, administrative rules, and official practices that recognize, monitor, or support religious communities, regulate religious education and welfare activities, and determine the status of religious organizations within the state legal order. The concept covers recognition and registration of religious associations, taxation and funding arrangements, governance and appointment rules for clergy, and the regulation of religious education, marriages, and symbols in public institutions.

Historically, modern states increasingly asserted regulatory authority over religion as part of state-building, civic education, and social neutrality. Different models exist: strict separation and neutral public sphere; cooperative arrangements between church and state; and pluralistic systems with state funding and oversight. Notable examples include France’s laïcité and 1905 separation of church and state, Germany’s Kirchenkultur with church taxes and social partnership, the United Kingdom’s recognized churches and charities framework, and the Netherlands’ regulation of religious institutions within a plural welfare state.
