Reet

REEt is a family of standards and software for exchanging energy and environmental data between producers, grid operators, marketers, and regulators. It provides a common data model and interfaces to support real-time and batched data flows, with particular emphasis on generation and consumption measurements, energy settlement, and environmental attributes such as carbon intensity and renewable certificates. The aim is to improve transparency, traceability, and efficiency in electricity markets across regions.

The initiative originated in the mid-2010s from an international consortium known as the REEt Community. The first major release, REEt v1.0, appeared in 2016, with subsequent revisions in 2019 and 2021 that expanded interoperability, added governance mechanisms, and broadened regional applicability. By the early 2020s, REEt had been adopted in several markets and supported by both commercial implementations and open-source reference stacks.

Technically, the REEt stack includes a data model, an API layer, and a governance framework. Data are transmitted via RESTful APIs and real-time WebSocket streams, covering generation, consumption, capacity, settlement, and environmental metrics. Security features encompass OAuth 2.0, digital signing, and role-based access control, while privacy considerations guide data minimization and anonymization where appropriate. Interoperability is encouraged through standardized identifiers, cross-border certification, and versioning rules to manage updates.

Applications include energy trading, renewable attribute certificates, carbon accounting, and demand-response orchestration. REEt supports auditing, settlement, and regulatory reporting, contributing to greater market efficiency and cross-border integration. Ongoing governance seeks to address fragmentation and ensure consistent adoption across diverse regulatory environments.
