Redundansåtgärder, often translated as redundancy measures, refers to the implementation of backup systems or processes to ensure continuity of operations in case of failure in the primary system. This concept is widely applied across various sectors, including IT, engineering, and business management. The core principle is to have a secondary, or even multiple, alternative that can take over when the primary component malfunctions or becomes unavailable.

In information technology, redundancy measures commonly involve redundant servers, networks, and power supplies. For example, a website might have multiple servers hosted in different geographical locations. If one server goes offline due to hardware failure or a natural disaster, traffic can be automatically redirected to a functioning server, minimizing downtime. Similarly, redundant data storage solutions, such as RAID configurations, protect against data loss due to disk failure.

In engineering and manufacturing, redundancy might involve duplicate machinery or safety systems. For critical infrastructure like power plants or bridges, backup systems are designed to prevent catastrophic failures. This can include backup generators or duplicate structural supports.
