Redias
Redias is a term used in parasitology to describe a larval stage in the life cycle of many digenean trematodes, inside the intermediate snail host. The singular form is redia, and the common plural in modern scientific writing is rediae; some older or less formal sources may render the plural as redias. Rediae develop from sporocysts within the snail and serve as sites of asexual reproduction. They produce cercariae, which exit the snail and proceed to the next host in the parasite’s life cycle. Depending on the species, cercariae may directly infect the next host or encyst as metacercariae in vegetation or within another intermediate host before reaching the definitive host.
