Mechanisms include reciprocal causation, model-based inference, and resonance effects, where a change in one realm prompts adjustments in others, and those adjustments, in turn, reshape the original realm. Examples include: in urban environments, social norms and governance influence street design and land use, which affect mobility and health, feeding back into policy. In digital platforms, user behavior and platform incentives reflect existing cultural trends while simultaneously steering future behavior through algorithms. In science and education, epistemic norms in scientific communities reflect broader social values and institutions, shaping what research questions are pursued and how findings are interpreted.

Critics argue that realmsreflecting can be nebulous if not anchored to specific mechanisms or measurements, risking overgeneralization across domains.
