Rayquaza

Rayquaza is a Legendary Dragon- and Flying-type Pokémon from the Hoenn region, introduced in Generation III. It is known as the Sky High Pokémon and is said to dwell in the upper atmosphere, where it serves as a guardian of the skies. In Hoenn lore, Rayquaza soothes the world’s weather by calming the fighting titans Groudon (Earth) and Kyogre (Sea) when their powers clash, preventing planetary catastrophe.

In the main-series games, Rayquaza is encountered in the Sky Pillar and plays a central role in quelling the clash between Groudon and Kyogre, after which it can be captured. Its design features a long, serpentine body covered in emerald-green scales with yellow markings and red underbelly. It is typically depicted as calm and protective, intervening only when required.

Rayquaza is a Dragon- and Flying-type Pokémon with high offensive capabilities and a broad movepool, making it notable in battles. Its signature move is Dragon Ascent, which in later games is associated with its Mega Evolution. In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Rayquaza can Mega Evolve in battle without a Mega Stone; Dragon Ascent is used to trigger Mega Evolution, transforming Rayquaza into Mega Rayquaza, which gains a dramatic increase in power and a distinct appearance.

Across games, anime, and related media, Rayquaza remains one of the defining symbols of Hoenn’s lore. It is portrayed as a powerful yet protective figure who maintains balance in the world’s skies and storms.
