Flyingtype

Flyingtype is one of the eighteen elemental types used for both moves and Pokémon in the Pokémon video game series. Introduced in the first generation, it is associated with avian and aerial creatures as well as moves that emphasize flight and air-based power.

In battles, Flying-type has a distinctive set of strengths and weaknesses. It is immune to Ground-type moves, meaning Ground attacks deal no damage to Flying-type Pokémon regardless of their other type. Flying-type attacks are typically strong against Bug, Grass, and Fighting types, while Flying-type Pokémon usually take increased damage from Rock, Electric, and Ice-type moves. It also tends to resist Bug, Fighting, and Grass-type attacks. The final effectiveness of a Flying-type move against a dual-typed opponent depends on the opponent’s other type as well.

Many Flying-type Pokémon exhibit high speed and good offensive options, but they often have average defenses and individual variability in bulk. Their movepools commonly include Flying-type moves such as Gust, Wing Attack, and Aerial Ace, along with coverage moves from other types. Flying is frequently seen in dual typings (for example, Dragon/Flying or Water/Flying), which can alter weaknesses and resistances.

Notable examples of Flying-type Pokémon include birds and sky-dwelling species, as well as several dual-type forms. The Flying type contributes to strategic diversity in the games, offering fast offensive pressure, niche immunities, and synergies with teammates that can exploit its resistances and weaknesses.
