Ravintona is a fictional organic compound used in educational contexts and in world-building narratives to illustrate principles of molecular design, enzymology, and docking. The name appears in teaching scenarios as a nutrient-mimicking ligand, and in-universe etymology sometimes connects the term to ravinto, a word resembling nutrition, though ravintona is not part of real chemical nomenclature.

Structure and properties

Ravintona is described as a small, planar heteroaromatic molecule with a bicyclic core, typically comprising a pyridone fused to a benzene ring. It is often depicted with a methoxy substituent and an amide side chain, enabling hydrogen-bonding and various noncovalent interactions. In fictional depictions, its molecular weight is given as roughly 210–230 g/mol, with moderate solubility in organic solvents and relatively low water solubility.

Synthesis and discovery

In the narratives, ravintona is introduced as a model compound used to teach reaction mechanisms and synthetic planning. A common fictional route involves a two-step sequence: condensation of a 2-aminopyridine derivative with an aldehyde to form an imine, followed by oxidation and functional-group modification to furnish the final structure.
