Blood pregnancy tests are performed by healthcare professionals in a clinical setting. They are generally more sensitive than urine tests and can detect hCG earlier in pregnancy, sometimes even before a missed period. There are two types of blood tests: qualitative, which simply checks for the presence of hCG, and quantitative (beta-hCG), which measures the exact amount of hCG in the blood. Quantitative tests can also help estimate the stage of pregnancy and monitor its progression.

The accuracy of a pregnancy test depends on several factors, including the sensitivity of the test, when it is taken in relation to conception, and proper usage. Both home urine tests and clinical blood tests are highly accurate when used correctly and at the appropriate time.
