Ranto

Ranto is a coastal town and municipality in the southern Veridian province of Veridia. Located on the Veridian Sea at the mouth of the Serin River, it lies about 90 kilometers from the capital. The municipality covers around 40 square kilometers and had a population of about 12,000 in 2022.

Ranto’s origins lie in medieval fishing communities founded in the 12th century. It grew as a port in the 16th century, trading timber, grain, and salt. The late-19th century railway connected Ranto to inland markets, spurring growth in manufacturing and services.

The coastline combines sandy beaches with rocky coves, and inland hills fringe the harbor. The town has a temperate Mediterranean climate, with warm summers and mild, wet winters. The Serin River provides a sheltered harbor and nearby wetlands.

Today, fishing remains central to the economy, supplemented by seafood processing, small manufacturing, and growing tourism. The historic harbor district hosts markets, restaurants, and guest houses. Ranto hosts an annual Sea Festival with sailing events and cultural performances.

Administratively, Ranto is governed by a 15-member municipal council led by a mayor. It is part of Veridia’s southern region and is connected by a national railway and a major highway. Notable landmarks include the 1888 Ranto Lighthouse, the Old Market, and the Serin Bridge.
