Randian

Randian refers to a term used to describe things related to or reminiscent of the philosophy of Ayn Rand, particularly her concept of Objectivism. This philosophy emphasizes individualism, rational self-interest, and laissez-faire capitalism. When something is described as Randian, it often implies a focus on strong, independent characters, a rejection of altruism as a primary moral duty, and a belief in the pursuit of personal happiness and achievement as the highest moral purpose.

The term can be applied to literature, film, or even political and economic ideologies that appear to align with Rand's core tenets. For example, a character who is highly competent, self-reliant, and unapologetically pursues their own goals, often against societal opposition, might be considered a Randian archetype. Similarly, economic policies that advocate for minimal government intervention and free markets are sometimes labeled as Randian.

However, the term is not always used in a strictly academic or positive sense. It can also be employed critically to suggest an extreme or uncompromising adherence to Rand's principles, sometimes implying a lack of empathy or an overemphasis on material success. The perception of something as Randian often depends on the observer's own philosophical stance and their interpretation of Rand's complex body of work.
