Rajneeshism
Rajneeshism, also known as Oshoism, is a spiritual movement founded by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, who was born as Osho in India in 1931. The movement gained prominence in the 1970s and 1980s, particularly in the United States, where it was known for its communal living and the establishment of the Rajneeshpuram settlement in Oregon. Rajneeshism is characterized by its syncretic approach to spirituality, drawing from various religious traditions and incorporating elements of Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, and other faiths. The movement emphasizes self-realization, personal transformation, and the pursuit of inner peace and enlightenment. Rajneeshism promotes a lifestyle of simplicity, vegetarianism, and communal living, with followers often participating in meditation, yoga, and other spiritual practices. The movement has been the subject of controversy and criticism, with allegations of cult-like practices, financial mismanagement, and health issues among followers. Despite these controversies, Rajneeshism continues to have a dedicated following and remains an influential spiritual movement.
