Radiofrequenztherapie

Radiofrequenztherapie, often abbreviated as RFT, is a medical treatment that utilizes radiofrequency energy to produce localized heat. This heat is then applied to specific tissues to achieve various therapeutic effects. The principle behind RFT involves the conversion of electrical energy into thermal energy when it passes through biological tissues. The degree of heating depends on the tissue's electrical conductivity and the applied radiofrequency parameters.

In medical applications, RFT is commonly employed for pain management. It can be used to target nerves that transmit pain signals. By heating and thereby ablating or denervating these nerves, the transmission of pain impulses to the brain is interrupted, offering relief. This technique is frequently used for conditions such as chronic back pain, facet joint pain, and certain types of arthritis.

Beyond pain relief, radiofrequency ablation is also utilized in other areas of medicine. It can be used to treat cardiac arrhythmias by destroying abnormal electrical pathways in the heart. In dermatology, RFT devices are sometimes used for skin tightening and wrinkle reduction, although the underlying mechanism and efficacy in this context can differ from therapeutic applications. The procedure is generally performed under local anesthesia, and recovery time is typically short, with patients often able to resume normal activities soon after treatment.
