Raddrehzahl

RadDrehzahl refers to the rotational speed of a vehicle wheel, typically expressed in revolutions per minute (rpm). It is a fundamental parameter in vehicle dynamics, braking, and drivetrain analysis, and it can vary with speed, tire size, and gearing.

In modern vehicles, RadDrehzahl is usually measured by wheel speed sensors located at each wheel. Most commonly these are Hall-effect or magneto-resistive sensors that generate pulses as a reluctor ring or gear toothed wheel passes by. The vehicle’s electronic control unit converts these pulses into rpm values for each wheel and uses them in systems such as anti-lock braking (ABS), electronic stability control (ESP), and traction control.

RadDrehzahl is related to vehicle speed through the equation v = (rpm/60) × C, where v is linear speed and C is the tire circumference. Therefore, wheel rpm depends on tire size and the drive axle’s gear ratio (including the differential). Changing tire dimensions or gear ratios changes the same engine speed’s translation into wheel speed. For typical passenger cars, wheel rpm at highway speeds generally lies in the hundreds to around two thousand rpm, varying with speed and gearing.

Applications of RadDrehzahl data include braking regulation, slip detection, and adaptive cruise control integration. Correct interpretation assumes accurate sensor signals and awareness of tire size and drivetrain configuration. Potential sources of error include sensor misalignment, electrical noise, or tire deformation affecting the effective circumference.
