Raamduste

Raamduste is the Estonian term for frames: assemblies that form the boundary, support, or mounting around an object or opening. The concept appears in architecture, carpentry, art, and industrial design. In buildings, raam-ed around doors and windows defines the edges of openings and helps transfer loads, while in art and display, raamdused set the boundary within which an image or object is presented.

Types of raamduste include picture frames, window and door frames, and structural frames in buildings or machinery. Frame design influences strength, insulation, aesthetics, and accessibility. In architectural practice, frames must accommodate movements from settling, temperature changes, and wind loads, while in manufacturing, machine frames provide mounting points and rigidity for components.

Materials commonly used for raamduste are wood, metal (such as steel and aluminum), and composite materials. Construction methods vary from traditional timber joinery to welding, bolting, or bolted flange connections for metal frames, with prefabricated elements becoming increasingly common. Finishes—paint, varnish, enamel, or anodizing—protect against corrosion and wear and can enhance appearance.

Proper alignment, sealing, and fastening are essential to ensure durability, weather resistance, and user safety.
