RX0

The RX0 is a compact, rugged action camera developed by Sony and launched in 2017 as part of the RX line. It is designed for use in extreme environments and in multi-camera setups, offering a small form factor with a credit-card-like body and a fixed wide-angle lens.

The camera centers on a 1.0-type Exmor RS CMOS sensor, delivering around 15.3 megapixels, paired with Sony’s BIONZ X image processor. It uses a fixed Carl Zeiss Tessar T lens with a 24 mm equivalent focal length and a fixed aperture of approximately f/4. This combination is intended to provide a balance of image quality and depth of field in a very compact package. The RX0 emphasizes speed and simplicity, allowing stills and video to be captured without changing lenses or accessories.

In terms of durability, the RX0 is designed for challenging conditions. It is waterproof to about 10 meters without a housing, shockproof to withstand drops onto hard surfaces, and rated to endure freezing temperatures and crush pressure to suit outdoor and action use. The camera can record 4K video and also support high-definition slow-motion capture, along with electronic image stabilization to stabilize footage during movement. Still images are captured at up to the camera’s maximum sensor resolution, and overall performance is oriented toward compactness and versatility rather than high-end photographic control.

Connectivity includes wireless options such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for remote control and image transfer to mobile devices. The RX0 is often used in creative rigs, underwater setups, or as part of multi-camera arrays, where its small size and rugged design are advantageous. A successor, the RX0 II, was released later with incremental improvements.
