RMGs

RMGs, or Ready-Made Garments, refer to clothing that has been manufactured in large quantities according to standard sizes and designs. These garments are produced in factories and are available for purchase directly to consumers without the need for individual tailoring. The RMG sector is a significant part of the global textile and apparel industry, contributing substantially to the economies of many developing countries.

The production process for RMGs typically involves several stages, starting from sourcing raw materials like cotton or synthetic fibers, followed by spinning, weaving or knitting, dyeing, cutting, sewing, and finally finishing and packaging. Factories often employ specialized machinery and a large workforce to achieve mass production efficiency. The standardization of sizes and designs allows for economies of scale, making RMGs more affordable than custom-made clothing.

The RMG industry plays a crucial role in employment, particularly for women, in countries like Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Cambodia. It is a major source of foreign exchange earnings through exports. However, the industry has also faced scrutiny regarding working conditions, labor rights, and environmental impact, leading to various initiatives and regulations aimed at improving sustainability and ethical practices within RMG manufacturing.
